Dress to Impress at Goodwood Revival whatever your shape

Written by Kate Beavis
With Goodwood Revival fast approaching, where ladies and gents dress up in their vintage finery from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, to enjoy a weekend of racing, shopping and people watching, we thought we would help you choose what to wear. Dressing to impress is a "must" at this event, so here is our guide to how to look great in a vintage style whatever your shape.

Pear (hips are wider than bust)
The Goodwood Grable Dress works well for ladies that want to balance out their shape as the dress has a slimming fit around the waist with the skirt flaring out, which is also perfect for dancing. Teamed up with a bolero means shape is added at the shoulder. This look is perfect for lovers of the 1940s fashions and is a style that can be worn again on a day out or even to the office. Team up with matching shoes with a 1940s style mid heel and mini platform such as the Betty by Miss L Fire.

Apple (broader shoulders and bust with narrower hips)
For apple shaped ladies who love the 1960s, this Coco Chanel influenced suit works perfectly. The boucle material is slightly more structured than the other dresses here with a slight A line princess shape which will balance out your shoulders. The colour is so pretty, the cap sleeves are flattering and the length falls just above the knee. You can wear this to Goodwood, then on to a late summer wedding or even on date night with your beau. Wear with matching pink shoes and large clip on vintage earrings.

Hourglass (narrow waist compared to bust and hips)
An hourglass shape is perfect for a classic 1950s style fit and flare dress with a nipped in waist and full skirt as it accentuates the narrowest part of your figure. The Connie dress by The House of Foxy is based on a late 50s design and has the added benefit of longer sleeves to take you into autumn. Wear with fun wedges to complete the look such as these woven raffia shoes in navy and mustard.

Banana (straight shape)
For the bananas out there, embrace your inner Jackie O with this classic 2 piece suit in a pale blue. The neckline, cropped jacket and slight tulip shape to the dress are super flattering for a straight shape. And again, the wearable style means you can bring it out of the wardrobe for many events to come. Wear with a string of pearls and simple courts – these ones are fun with their 1960s clear heel.
