Selecting swimwear is one of the most stressful times of the year. Make sure you try on your costume from last year to ensure it’s best for your shape, especially if your weight tends to fluctuate. These top tips will ensure that you stand out for all the right reasons!

Shrink stomachs

For those ladies who are self-conscious of their tummies, there are lots of clever tummy control swimsuits which will slim your silhouette. The unique panels and material will smooth your stomach, define your waist and give you a great beach body. This adorable piece by Miraclesuit. £138, will make you look like a 1950s pinup as it claims to make you look 10lbs lighter!

Strong support

If you have a large bust, you need to ensure that you have selected the correct size and opt for cups with built in support to flatter your silhouette. Head to M&S for a bra fitting before choosing any swimsuits. Bravissimo cater for ladies with larger busts and their fantastic selection of swimwear is available by bra size to make it easier to find the perfect fit. I love this Aztec blue bikini that will help you feel confident and supported whilst frolicking in the sun.

Perfect pear

To make the most of your curves you need to make sure your top half balances your bottom half. I suggest finding either a two-piece or a one-piece with a block colour from the waist down and a bold, bright print from the waist up. This will minimise your hips, thighs and bottom whilst maximising the shape of your bust and shoulders. This chic swimsuit from Figleaves will draw attention to your top half whilst slimming your hips and waist to give you a fabulous beach body.

Contours and curves

If you want to achieve more shape, then experiment with some of the über glamorous cut-out one pieces available on the high street or online. The leopard print monokini by Caprice available from features cut-outs strategically placed around the hips to give the optical illusion of a slender waist and fuller hips. It is best top opt for bright colours, bold patterns and lots of detail to enhance rather than camouflage your shape. Look out for extra padding in cups to boost your bust for a more feminine shape.

Cardies and Cover-Ups

  • If you are worried about exposing too much flesh there is something for every shape on the high street, you just need to ensure you know what is right for you:
  • If you wish to conceal the top of your arms, find yourself a short cardigan or bolero that covers the area without drowning your silhouette completely. Or select a piece with batwing sleeves which will elongate and slim the tops of your arms.
  • If you are self-conscious of your thighs and bottom you can wear skirts and dresses cut on a bias which are pretty and feminine and will gently skim the hips and bum without hugging it and drawing attention to that area.
  •  For those of you who are self-conscious of your tummies, choose a fabric with a large pattern at the waist or a block of colour which can create an optical illusion that slims the tummy and flattens it.
  • If you aren’t keen on your pins, the maxi dress is the most forgiving article of clothing you can get and there are so many in the shops to choose from.

So, what are you waiting for? It's time to start enjoying your summer...
