Hats are not only the perfect way to protect your hair and face from the harsh sun, but you’ll also radiate glamour and personality.

Make sure you choose a hat that suits your face shape and flatters your skin tone. A hat really completes an outfit so it’s important to ensure that your hat suits your ensemble otherwise it might look a little too fancy dress!

The Panama Hat is set to be a popular hat style this summer and will complete a casual, daytime look. The light grey Panama from Liberty, £120, (pictured below) will flatter those with a round face as the structured angles of the hat are particularly slimming.

It will also look fabulous on those ladies with short, stylish hair. For those with long locks the panama will work for you if you pop your hair into an up-do like an eye-catching fishtail plait, a messy bun or a sleek and smooth ponytail.

The Floppy Hat radiates Hollywood glamour and will offer your face and hair protection from the sun and wind. This hat is a timeless-classic and will instantly transform your swimwear paired with sparkling sandals and oversized shades. The Juicy Couture Wide Brim Sun Hat with Patent Bow, £68. (pictured below) is the ultimate accessory for chilling by the pool or strolling in the sun and it’s neutral shade will suit a range of skin tones.

Alternatively, unleash your inner style guru and wear your wide-brimmed hat with jeans, a pretty camisole and summer blazer for a chic finish to a daytime look. The hat will flatter those with a square or heart-shaped face by balancing your jawline and for those fashionistas try some canny customising by tying a silk scarf about the brim of the hat add a touch of individuality.

One of season’s hottest hats is tipped to be the ‘Boater’ and it’s especially versatile; perfect for the country, city or beach. This ladylike straw hat from Topshop, £20, (pictured below) is right on trend but its flat top and stiff brim with silk ribbon is not for everyone.

It will look best on an oval face with medium to long length hair. Avoid this style if you are self-conscious of your full cheeks as the shape will exaggerate rather than flatter them. Wear your hair down for a feminine, stylish look with an edge. h

Or you can follow in the style footsteps of Madonna and choose a straw Cowboy Hat for a sassy summer look. This style suits all face shapes and is best worn with long, loose hairstyles. There is a huge selection of Cowboy hats on the high street with super sassy beaded styles or the more traditional straw cowboy hats.

I have my eye on Raffia Cowboy Hat by Heidi Klein, £100, (pictured below) which oozes a cool, Californian vibe. This will look ultra-stylish worn with a summer dress or jeans for a more relaxed look.
