…is a television presenter and is best known for being one half of The Hairy Bikers with Dave Myers. Their TV shows are a mixture of cookery and travelogue and have included titles such as The Hairy Bikers Ride Again and The Hairy Bakers.

What are you working on at the moment?
We are [with chef partner Dave Myers] exploring the world of chicken. Takes a lot of pluck!

When were you at your happiest?
The first time we were invited to demo at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC in the summer of 2006. It was the first time we’d done a demo of that scale and we loved every minute of it.

What is your greatest fear?
Waking up on Gateshead High Street with no clothes on!

What is your earliest memory?
Eating a boiled egg and soldiers on my granddad’s knee when I was three years old.

What do you most dislike about The Hairy Bikers?
That Dave doesn’t look like George Clooney.

Who has been your greatest influence?
Dave. We spend such a huge amount of time together and I’ve always found him to be very inspiring.

What is your most treasured possession?
My dad’s Second World War medals.

What trait do you most deplore in others?
I can’t stand dishonesty and lack of sincerity.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I’ve got no ass.

What is your favourite book?
Nathaniel’s Nutmeg by Giles Milton.

What is your favourite film?
The Big Lebowski.

first-imp-590-2Si savours: Nathaniel’s Nutmeg, The Holberg Suite, The Big Lebowski and memories of a boiled egg and soldiers

And your favourite piece of music?

Edvard Grieg’s The Holberg Suite.

What is your favourite meal?
A meal of varied crustaceans.

Who would you most like to come to dinner?
Che Guevara, Keith Moon and Audrey Hepburn. As I love seafood, I’d cook them something using the fruits of the sea.

What is the nastiest thing anyone has ever written about you?
‘Simon King, 63.’

Do you believe in aliens?
Yeah, I’ve been to the Isle of Man!

What is your secret vice?
Red sauce and chips, and coleslaw-and-prawn sandwiches.

Do you write thank-you notes?
Yes I do. Handwritten notes mean far more than a text or email.

Which phrase do you most overuse?
‘The fact of the matter is…’

What would improve the quality of your life?
Dave and I wouldn’t change a thing. We’ve worked hard to get where we are and now we feel happy and settled.

Tell us one thing people might not know about you.
Not many people know that I like poetry and play the drums.

What would you like your epitaph to read?
‘Can somebody get me out of here? It’s dark!’

Si and Dave will be cooking live at the BBC Good Food Show Summer at the NEC Birmingham on 18 June. To book tickets, go to:
