When one normally thinks of an album launch they picture aperitifs, bright lights and loud music but the new Belinda Carlisle album launch, aptly named Wilder Shores, was a much quieter affair and with a unique difference- it is a Yoga Album!

On arriving at Cecil House, which looks like a lovely vintage dance studio I was greeted by soft candles and a large supply of Jax Coco Coconut water (how could I resist? I had to drink two). After settling on our mats we were taught some breathing practices by Joy Yoga, a London based yoga company that offers classes all over London. This is to relax the body and open the heart whilst Belinda Carlisle began singing songs and mantras from her new album. The music was gently uplifting and the yoga poses were not too strenuous so I instantly felt my stress melting away after my long day of business.

It was quite easy to learn the words too and I found myself naturally joining in, as others were. Normally I am quite self-concious but we weren't put on the spot and everyone was singing anyway so they probably couldn't hear how out of tune I was!

We were then treated to a Gongbath- something which I was not all too familiar with but was soon to learn! It involves the beating of a gong whilst you lie on the floor completely still with palms facing the ceiling. This is to soothe and detox the body in a holistic way and the sounds are to relax the mind. Of course I went one step further and literally fell asleep on the floor. It just felt so relaxing and I really couldn't help myself (which wasn’t part of the plan so hopefully nobody noticed!)

At the end Belinda explained her passion for Kundalini yoga and how meditation has helped her life in many ways whilst I also got the privilege to speak with Normandie Keith, an ambassador for YogaGlo. She explained the importance of self-care and taking time out for oneself which relaxes the mind and body throughout. I refrained from explaining that I had been so in the zone that I’d fallen asleep but I guess that brings a whole new meaning to the term relaxation! All in all, a beautiful evening with beautiful music that feeds the soul.
