There was a big party last night at Windsor Castle.  A huge gala dinner. I thought it better not to turn up seeing as I hadn’t been invited.  But I was still excited all the same to know it was going on.

You see, American fashion royalty, aka the great Ralph Lauren, descended on our shores to raise money for a cause exceptionally close to my heart, that of chasing a breast cancer cure.  Prince William, as the Royal Marsden Hospital’s president, played host but the event itself was sponsored by Lauren with many a glamorous guest including Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne and Cate Blanchett turning up.

The Marsden, located on Fulham Road, is a specialist cancer treatment hospital but is also renowned for its exceptional care of its patients.  Personally, during my experience as a BRCA1 gene carrier, I have felt exceptionally well cared for on each and every visit to the hospital over the last few years (see blog for the full story of my gene mutation story).

And so I am (excuse the pun) tickled-pink to hear of the enormously generous 'multi-million dollar' donation by the billionaire fashion designer.  This investment will, in 2015, open a new, state-of-the-art breast cancer research facility, run clinical trials and allow the charity to improve its diagnosis and treatment methods.  Quite overwhelmingly wonderful news, I feel.

So last night they partied.  Not Kate and me.  We were in tracksuits babysitting the Smalls but, seeing as it was for such a great cause, I understood my invitation simply got lost in the post and raised my cup of chamomile tea to the boy from the Bronx.
