Move over trusty LBD as this season it's all about the LRD. Eva Mendes and Victoria Beckham have been seen sporting gorgeous red numbers recently and even The Duchess of Cambridge has recently been seen in a bold Red Alexander McQueen outfit for the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

Red is a great summer alternative to black; It’s bold yet classic and provided you get the look right, it can be sexy and sophisticated at the same time. Thankfully there are lots of outfit options to choose from in the shops, making it easy to take your look from desk to dance floor.

If you’re an apple shape then try to stick to a dress that will show off your great cleavage and slim legs, but cinch in at your waist. Dresses should ideally flare toward the hem line as this will balance out your middle. Strategically placed detail top or bottom will help guide the eye away from the waist. Skin-skimming textures like chiffon and silk look best. The Maggie Crepe dress from Coast is a great choice. This gorgeous shift dress has criss cross ruche detailing at the waist tailored to hide and hold. It features a subtle cowl neckline to flatter the bust and is a style that can take you effortlessly from boardroom to bar. The dress is fully lined for ultimate comfort. £135.

Glam up your look in the evening with a killer pair of heels or wedges but go for demure so your dress does all the work. Nude heels are a safe choice and those extra inches add height and elongate your legs. Something like the Kick Ass Court Snake Leather shoes from Office are perfect. £65.00.

If you’re lucky enough to be an hourglass then classic cuts look fabulous. Avoid ruffles, bows and frills as your figure will do all the talking but don't be afraid of figure-hugging shapes. This coral red textured dress from Next is a simple classic cut with a low neck line and short capped sleeves. It hugs your natural shape and the detailed print is elegant and subtle.

To transform your makeup pair nude lips with a bold, lined eye and thick lashes rather than layering on the coloured lippy. Mac has the perfect thing. Crème d’nude Lipstick RRP £14.00 and if you need some colour then go sheer. New Temptation Sheen Supreme Lipstick RRP £14.50.

Finally if you are short on curves or 'rhubarb', choose a dress that mimics the look of curves, it's all about optical illusions. Create shape with a shoulder-padded blazer on top of your dress which makes the waist look smaller. Or, add interest up top with an eye-catching neck line. The Cowl Drape Dress from Oasis is a high scoop neck maxi dress with cut out detailing at the back. It comes with a gorgeous contrasting belt to cinch the waste and define your shape. Dresses are made for this shape just steer clear of skirt and top combos which don't help to give you any shape.

Switch up your look in the evening by teaming the dress with fabulous jewellery. A statement pair of earrings really compliments an evening outfit. Mango have some gorgeous statement jewellery at the moment. Opt for something like Touch-Fringes Triangle Earrings- £19.99- (online exclusive) or Chains Embossed Cuff- £14.99.
